From BB to CC

Just when we finally got BB cream to the United States, Korea and Japan were already ahead of us and were using the next letter in the alphabet: CC cream. CC cream, otherwise known as Color Correction or Color Control cream, is the better version of BB cream.

CC cream has a higher SPF to protect skin from UVA and UVB rays, a lighter and silkier texture to ward of oily finishes, corrects and blends with skin tone better than its former self, has a natural finish, and still has amazing skin benefits.

Unfortunately CC cream is still unavailable to us in the US, but Chanel is the first US brand to sign on with CC creams and is available on their Chinese website; hope you can read Chinese!

I haven’t even finished my first bottle of BB cream, and I’m still marveling over its properties even though I bought it during the summer, I wonder what my reaction will be like when CC creams come out!

Six beauty items that aren’t very friendly

Here is a list of regular beauty items that surprisingly contain animal products..

1. Candles- So they aren’t apart of a beauty routine, but most of us girls use them and they just smell oh so good! Unfortunately, some contain beeswax or honey for scent, you can find vegan candles here. If you’re wondering why bee products are so bad, I have finally found out why here; no more Burt’s Bees products for me.

2. Toothpaste- They usually contain dairy products and I know for a fact that in the USA Colgate test on animals. I found a nice blog that listed their favorite vegan and all around healthier toothpaste here.

3. Deodorant- Even this isn’t vegan, but if you’re a healthy vegan you shouldn’t have body odor anyways, I rarely even wear deodorant anymore; find out why here. Ban is accidentally vegan, and I use Kiss my Face deodorant. Crystal Body Deodorant Stick, Natural Grooming by Herban Cowboy Men’s Natural Deodorant, andJason’s Natural Cosmetics Deodorant Stick are supposed to be really great.

4. Shoes- I am always careful about this, it is so easy to forget to check what they are made of in the excitement of finding uber cute shoes. This is my favorite website for vegan shoes.

5. Vitamins- Do you know where those vitamins that are so great for your hair, skin, and nails are derived from? Check the labeling on the bottles, if they are vegan they should have a vegan symbol or say “suitable for vegetarians and vegans”.

6. Makeup- Of course I couldn’t forget this! I found a blog with a bunch of vegan friendly makeup links, you can see it here. I’m not totally sure but I think that all or at least some of Tarte’s cosmetics are vegan. Just so everyone knows, I was mistaken, I though ELF was vegan but it is only cruelty free, sadly.

I hope this helps you friendly girls make ‘pretty’ wise decisions!

(did you notice the pun?)

Fall Haul

Here are my Fall/Winter back-to-school clothes! This isn’t all of it, so there will be a later post when my shopping is completely finished. I hope this will give you some great ideas for the colder seasons! All of the clothing is from Ross and Marshal’s.

I love these shoes because they have all the colors that are in this season; Mustard, burgundy, and dark browns. The shiny faux leather bow is also very cute for next season; shiny leather was seen all over the run ways!

After spending spring and summer in entirely non cushioned flats, these shoes are a gift from heaven! They are the most comfortable thing I have ever set my foot into. The bright, vivid blue color and the teeny tiny heel is so in next season!

Lace, lace, lace; I just can’t get enough of it! This is a long sleeved, winter white shirt that can make a simple outfit very cute!

I know that in my last post I said I would not buy cardigans that don’t actually keep me warm, but this is an exception because my boyfriend took me shopping and he wasn’t going to go back to the store to buy it some other time, so I thought “why not?”. Now I have a cute little cardigan to spice up any outfit!

I love the back of this shirt, it is just too cute! Sheer material and lace together make the perfect match! I think the only downside to all of this see through material is that I will have to buy a ton of undershirts!

This is the last lacy shirt, for now at least! Black, button down, and a high-low hemline; it doesn’t get any better than this.

So here are two of my high-low button down shirts in winter white, and coral!

Ahhhh, simplicity. I love this navy blue striped shirt, so cute.

I love this sparkly crop top. The material is so soft and I think it will keep me warm and cozy during the cold months.

So that is it for now! Of course, these aren’t the only things that are ‘in’ this season, you can find out more here.

Brain Storming

This is how I brain storm when I’m to lazy to put makeup on my face.

Possible tutorial coming soon, I’m sure you can guess what inspired this one.

I think I’m finally through with my blogging block, the ideas just keep flowing.

Looking Beautiful Naturally

Here are my tips for looking beautiful without all the makeup. These are skin care, hair care, and nail care things that we have overlooked or forgotten over the years.

Hair care

  1. When hair is wet it is very stretchy, and stretching it too much can cause breakage. Never brush your hair while it is wet, instead use a wide toothed comb or finger comb it if you can.
  2. When you blow dry your hair instead of keeping the nozzle directly in one spot, wave it back and forth all over to avoid overheating the hair.
  3. Give your hair a rest some days, instead of using the flat or curling iron put your hair up in a ballerina bun.
  4. Some people say to only wash your hair every other day, which can work fine for some people. I have heard a professional stylist say wash it every day because healthy hair can only emerge from a clean scalp, so if your hair is oily I think that washing it everyday is fine, and if your hair is dry try washing it every other day and see what happens.
  5. Always brush your hair before you go to sleep, the reason why we have dry ends is because the oil produced from our scalp hasn’t traveled down to the ends of our hair.

Skin care

  1. If you can’t stop breaking out and nothing you’ve tried has worked, try going for an all natural routine. I use St. Ives apricot cleanser and exfoliator, green tea toner, and grapeseed oil for a moisturizer, my skin looks better and better every day.
  2. The skin on your decolletage is as delicate as the skin underneath your eyes, so it should be treated as an extension of your face. Always moisturize it, never use harsh exfoliators, and always use sunscreen.
  3. Changing your skin care routine to often can upset the pH balance, so do it gradually.
  4. Don’t apply any cream to your skin while you sleep. At night the skin repairs itself and applying creams actually get in the way of repair. It will take the skin a few nights to get used to, so if you get a little dry just apply a masque before bed.
  5. Baggy eyes can be reduced by caffeine, I suggest using a cold bag of tea that isn’t decaffeinated and hold it under the eyes for a minute or so.
  6. Always moisturize your skin during the day, even if it is oily. When skin becomes dry it produces more sebum to make up for the lack of moisture, so your skin will be even more oily than it really is.
  7. Exfoliate the skin 3-4 times a week to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores.
  8. A great masque for acne is honey, flour, and half of a lemons juice.

 Nail care

  1. When filing the nails don’t go back and forth, start from the right and move the file to the middle and do that over and over, then repeat on the left side.
  2. For weak, and brittle nails applying a cuticle cream can help strengthen them. I use Burts Bees lemon cuticle cream.
  3. Before pushing back cuticles place them in warm water to soften them.
  4. When applying nail polish always use a base coat to avoid yellowing.

Of course I’m not wearing makeup!

Fall 2012 Bargain Shopping

This school year I promised myself that I will not make the same mistakes that I did last year like buying jackets that don’t keep me warm, buying a shirt I will never wear, buying something without making sure there aren’t holes in it, buying a simple black v-neck for $20.00 when I can find it for $3.00 somewhere else, the list goes on and on. If you’re like me you can’t afford to buy 50 new pairs of shirts and pants from Abercrombie, so here are my tips to buy plenty with as little money as possible!

Tips to swear by

  • Buy at least one jacket that will match with everything, and make sure it is something that will actually keep you warm.
  • Buy two scarves that work with every outfit, even if you live in a hot place like South Texas there are the occasional cold fronts, the school building is always freezing, and it can make a simple outfit look really cute!
  • If you’re feeling iffy about a garment don’t buy it, you might find something you like more in another store, and you can always come back later if you decide that you want it.
  • Some colors that are in this season are maroon, hot hot pink, mustard, deep purple, deep green, vivid blue, winter white, navy blue, and black, I suggest buying clothes in these colors so you never feel out of style.

My must haves

I am so happy that the some of the clothes that worked for summer still work for fall, here are the things that do!

  • The Peter Pan collar.
  • High-low skirts and shirts.
  • Colored denim, but instead of bright candy colors its maroon, mustard, olive, brown, etc.
  • Sheer button downs.
  • Lace.

I have been lusting after sheer button down shirts! I just bought one yesterday from Ross, the one I have is white and it’s a high-low shirt. Mine is similar to this one except mine is long sleeved and doesn’t have a studded collar.

Chiffon skirts are my favorite thing this fall! This is so on my wish list! Make sure yours is school length appropriate. What I’m going do is wear leggings underneath because this skirt is transparent.

Animal printed leggings are so in this fall! They are also cheaper than buying pants; I have found some for $5.00! Here is my pick!

A white v-neck or scoop neck shirt is a must, it can save an outfit.

A brown waist belt is a must; there have been countless times when I desperately needed one. I do have a trick though, if you don’t have one, you can always use a large and long ribbon!

Buy at least one pair of earrings if you aren’t a big jewelry person. Make sure they aren’t either gold or silver because one day you might be wearing all gold and if the only pair of earrings you have are silver then you will be stuck in a rut. I suggest buying pearl studs they will work with everything!

Bargain shopping

  • There are always great style deals and flash deals at Forever21
  • Ross and Marshalls are two stores that I really love because you can find cute clothes for amazing prices
  • I have yet to try it, but my cousin finds really pretty clothes at Goodwill. I was surprised when I asked her where she got all of her super cute things and her answer was Goodwill! Go by one that is next to a neighborhood where the residents have plenty of money.

Back pack essentials

  • I found this amazing Mini Emergency Kit at Francesca’s yesterday, I haven’t bought it yet but it is defiantly on my to-do list. It is in a super tiny and pretty bag that will fit in any purse or backpack. This mini emergency kit holds all the essentials for life’s unexpected events. The emergency kit include lip balm, dental floss, breath freshener, emery board, clear nail polish, nail polish remover, hair spray, clear elastics, earring backs, stain remover, double sided tape, mending kit, deodorant towelette, adhesive bandage, tampon & pain reliever.
  • If you have gym, bring a mini deodorant you can find them at any grocery store, I swear it will save your life!
  • If you’re like me and you have crazy dry skin you need lotion but don’t want to bring your huge at home bottle. I like to bring all of the mini sample sized that I get when I order makeup online, you can also get them from any department store, they always have samples!
  • Bring a back pack that has plenty of pockets, is comfortable, and will go with any outfit!
  • Always have fun, colorful, gel pens on hand, they can spark up any dreary assignment!

So there are my back-to-school tips, I hope this helps!

The wheels on the bus go round and round!

Follow Up on Pure Ice Nail Polish Review

This nail polish was applied on July 21, and today on the 25 only two fingers remain colored. This polish is the kind that doesn’t chip, the whole thing just peels off. I don’t peel it off myself, it usually happens when I’m washing my hair in the shower or I scratch something, the whole thing just comes loose. I wasn’t surprised since the bottle was only $2.00. If you don’t mind carrying the bottle in your purse for touch ups I would say this is a good find, but if you do a bunch of hands on work like gardening I would say buy a better brand.

Organizing the Cute Way

Have you ever bought a new product and the packaging was too cute to throw out, but you didn’t want it to just clutter up your room? Well I have a solution! My vanity is always cluttered because there just isn’t enough space, so I’m going to show you a couple of examples of how I reused my packaging, it is also a way of recycling!

This is a used up bottle of moisturizer, I just unscrewed the cap and took out the white container which left me with a nice clear one. I used this to hold my mascaras, eyeliner, and cream shadows, most of them are Hard Candy products.

On a side note, don’t buy this moisturizer. Less than a 1/4th of the bottle actually has any product in it, it is a huge rip off.

My Pokemon Ho-Oh figurine box is holding my little hair accessories like rubber bands and flower clips.

My old Victoria’s Secret back is holding tissues, deodorant, and nail polish remover.

This is the packaging that Andrea’s Choice new nail polish line came in, It is holding my disposable mascara wands.

I love little metal tins! I used this cute bag to hold them, there is a Bert’s Bees cuticle cream, foot cream, and (not shown) a cream that heals cuts faster. I hung the bag on the knob that is holding up the mirror on my vanity.

This is my old Victoria’s Secret perfume, it isn’t easy to see, but it is holding my bobby pins! I found it a great way to keep them organized!

This is a little origami box that my friend made me, it is just holding ear plugs, necklaces, and little stickers.

Here is a link to one that looks simple enough.

These are tins that held candies, the Hello Kitty one is holding a towel that cleans glasses, and Keroppi is holding mechanical pencil erasers.

On the left an old vase is holding my mountains of nail polish, on the right my nail polish is being held by a plastic popcorn box. The box is only $1.00 but I do not know where to buy it.

I’m pretty sure that you can’t tell what this is! The other knob on the side of my vanity is holding my head bands and ribbons.

My Glam Bags are holding my makeup that I use often.

This is a very convenient way to hold your “lady items”. It is so embarrassing to be in school and have a tampon fall out of your back pack, so I just carry this little bag with me whenever I need it. I used my favorite one to make my “time of the month” a little happier, ha!

This old shoe box is holding my flat irons and curler.

Oh well, my vanity is still cluttered, but at least its organized clutter! I hope this helps you find fun and creative ways to organize!

Are Wrinkles Beautiful?

This afternoon Vogue’s August magazine arrived and in it was an article called Fast Forward about women who are getting plastic surgery, laser treatments, Botox, etc. at ridiculously young ages. It made me think, are wrinkles really that horrendous? Is it so bad that people know that you are aging? Are you not considered beautiful because of a couple of lines?

“The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that pre-midlife crisis patients, aged nineteen to 34, account for 18 percent of those lining up for nonsurgical treatments…” How unbelievable! I am two years away from being 19 and suddenly girls my age are getting Botox? I honestly feel like I’m at my prime. Sure, I do worry a bit but the most I do to keep away wrinkles is apply Sun block; why stress about it anyway, you will only get worry lines, haha.

When I imagine myself as an older lady I see a woman who is wise, classy, fit, and has delicate laugh lines from all of the smiling I’ve done throughout the years. I have seen aged women in movies who are absolutely beautiful, I am actually shocked when I see these ladies stunning beauty, isn’t that what we should strive for?

I could be wrong, but the way I see anti-aging is by eating healthy, working out, taking care of your skin by hydrating it and using helpful masques, and seeing a masseur periodically to keep up circulation. Of course it isn’t fool proof, a few lines will show, a couple of thinks will sag, but what is so wrong with it? I find older women who take care of themselves beautiful.

Everyone ages, it isn’t something we can stop, and so why not do it gracefully? Why not embrace the wonderful lines of wisdom and the fond memories that come with it? I know one thing for sure; when I am older I will go out with class.

Two Year Old Makeup Extraordinaire

 Two Year Old Makeup Extraordinaire

The other night I had my makeup done by a very cute and persistent two year old. She actually surprised me by her knowledge! She knew to use a different brush or to at least wipe it off before changing colors; she wouldn’t dare mix my black shadow with my creamy gold one! Although her makeup skills could improve a bit, I think I see a future makeup artist!
