From BB to CC

Just when we finally got BB cream to the United States, Korea and Japan were already ahead of us and were using the next letter in the alphabet: CC cream. CC cream, otherwise known as Color Correction or Color Control cream, is the better version of BB cream.

CC cream has a higher SPF to protect skin from UVA and UVB rays, a lighter and silkier texture to ward of oily finishes, corrects and blends with skin tone better than its former self, has a natural finish, and still has amazing skin benefits.

Unfortunately CC cream is still unavailable to us in the US, but Chanel is the first US brand to sign on with CC creams and is available on their Chinese website; hope you can read Chinese!

I haven’t even finished my first bottle of BB cream, and I’m still marveling over its properties even though I bought it during the summer, I wonder what my reaction will be like when CC creams come out!

Morning Hydration Makeup Routine

For those of you that follow me, I am sincerely sorry for not blogging for-What? Weeks!? Yes, weeks. You see I have this big problem with commitment and keeping up with things. When it all becomes too much I just stop, so to do myself a favor I decided to only blog on Saturdays, Sundays, and occasionally week days if I have the chance. I also promise to work on video tutorials! I have plenty of other ideas, I am honestly just lazy and that’s why I haven’t done any. I pinky promise to try harder!

School has just started and I always have a horrible problem with my ultra dry skin. No matter how much lotion I slather on my face I still get dry and flaky underneath my BB cream!

I experimented on the first day of school and I found the perfect solution! Apply grapeseed oil underneath your daily moisturizer!

I was a little wary of this first, although I do have dry skin I do get oily around 9:00, but I thought what the heck I don’t want to be nicknamed “flaky face”. So I applied a generous amount of Now’s grapeseed oil to my face, then Neutrogena’s Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer and I let that soak into my skin for about 10 minutes. After that I used Too Faced Primed and Poreless Skin Smoothing Primer and Dr. Jart Water Infused Beauty Balm SPF 25. My skin was barely oily all day, and there wasn’t even the slightest hint of dry skin!

Now I will tell you why these products are so amazing!

NOW Foods Grapeseed Oil

100% Pure Grapeseed Oil is a light, odorless oil with mild astringent and emollient properties.  This versatile oil contains numerous essential fatty acids including Linoleic, Oleic, Stearic, Palmitic, Myristic and Lauric.  its rich, silky texture is perfect for soothing away dryness and irritation and is suitable for all skin types since it won’t clog pores or cause break-outs.  Grapeseed Oil is perfect as a base for lotions, and it’s mild enough to use as a conditioner for all hair types.” -NOW website

Astringent: a cosmetic that cleans the skin and constricts the pores

Emollient: having the power of softening or relaxing, as a medicinal substance; soothing, especially to the skin

Linoleic, Oleic, Stearic, Palmitic, Myristic and Lauric: Essential fatty acids are not naturally produced by the body. What they do is hold water in their cells and that is what keeps skin looking young, fresh, and healthy. They also prevent acne by dissolving deposits that clog pores and they repair skin damage caused by blemishes.

Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer

“Replenishes essential skin nutrients and provides continuous moisture nourishment throughout the day. Fortified with vitamins B, C, E and antioxidant omega bionutrients, this moisturizer is clinically proven to boost skin’s defense against dullness and roughness. Leaves skin naturally radiant, healthier and younger looking.” -Neutrogena cosmetics

You would think my skin would be super oily after applying this on top of the grapeseed oil, but it actually did the opposite! My skin looked hydrated and grease free! I love that it’s natural, although, it is only 97%, but I still think that is pretty great!

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Primer

“This one-of-a-kind makeup primer was scientifically formulated to wear alone or under bronzers and foundation powders for a look of flawless skin without makeup. Vitamins A & C, mulberry extract, and a powerful dose of Retinol virtually banish pores while tired skin is left hydrated, firmer, and detoxified. Primed & Poreless creates the perfect canvas to allow powders, bronzers, and foundations to slide seamlessly on the skin—delivering a flawless and perfectly blended look that stay in place all day. Skin appears brighter, fresher, and younger.” -Too Faced cosmetics

Need I say more? It is hydrating, and keeps your makeup on all day. What more could you want for a long school day?

There would be days when I would forget to apply moisturizer, and I didn’t even notice with this on! It’s AMAZING, so incredibly hydrating, makes my skin look flawless, NEVER comes off even with profuse sweating, and you need only a tiny amount to cover your face!

So that’s it for my morning beauty routine, do you have any morning essentials?
Who needs beauty sleep now!?

Six beauty items that aren’t very friendly

Here is a list of regular beauty items that surprisingly contain animal products..

1. Candles- So they aren’t apart of a beauty routine, but most of us girls use them and they just smell oh so good! Unfortunately, some contain beeswax or honey for scent, you can find vegan candles here. If you’re wondering why bee products are so bad, I have finally found out why here; no more Burt’s Bees products for me.

2. Toothpaste- They usually contain dairy products and I know for a fact that in the USA Colgate test on animals. I found a nice blog that listed their favorite vegan and all around healthier toothpaste here.

3. Deodorant- Even this isn’t vegan, but if you’re a healthy vegan you shouldn’t have body odor anyways, I rarely even wear deodorant anymore; find out why here. Ban is accidentally vegan, and I use Kiss my Face deodorant. Crystal Body Deodorant Stick, Natural Grooming by Herban Cowboy Men’s Natural Deodorant, andJason’s Natural Cosmetics Deodorant Stick are supposed to be really great.

4. Shoes- I am always careful about this, it is so easy to forget to check what they are made of in the excitement of finding uber cute shoes. This is my favorite website for vegan shoes.

5. Vitamins- Do you know where those vitamins that are so great for your hair, skin, and nails are derived from? Check the labeling on the bottles, if they are vegan they should have a vegan symbol or say “suitable for vegetarians and vegans”.

6. Makeup- Of course I couldn’t forget this! I found a blog with a bunch of vegan friendly makeup links, you can see it here. I’m not totally sure but I think that all or at least some of Tarte’s cosmetics are vegan. Just so everyone knows, I was mistaken, I though ELF was vegan but it is only cruelty free, sadly.

I hope this helps you friendly girls make ‘pretty’ wise decisions!

(did you notice the pun?)

Brain Storming

2012-08-08_00.12.58

This is how I brain storm when I’m to lazy to put makeup on my face.

Possible tutorial coming soon, I’m sure you can guess what inspired this one.

I think I’m finally through with my blogging block, the ideas just keep flowing.

Organizing the Cute Way

Have you ever bought a new product and the packaging was too cute to throw out, but you didn’t want it to just clutter up your room? Well I have a solution! My vanity is always cluttered because there just isn’t enough space, so I’m going to show you a couple of examples of how I reused my packaging, it is also a way of recycling!

Image

This is a used up bottle of moisturizer, I just unscrewed the cap and took out the white container which left me with a nice clear one. I used this to hold my mascaras, eyeliner, and cream shadows, most of them are Hard Candy products.

On a side note, don’t buy this moisturizer. Less than a 1/4th of the bottle actually has any product in it, it is a huge rip off.

Image

My Pokemon Ho-Oh figurine box is holding my little hair accessories like rubber bands and flower clips.

Image

My old Victoria’s Secret back is holding tissues, deodorant, and nail polish remover.

Image

This is the packaging that Andrea’s Choice new nail polish line came in, It is holding my disposable mascara wands.

Image

I love little metal tins! I used this cute bag to hold them, there is a Bert’s Bees cuticle cream, foot cream, and (not shown) a cream that heals cuts faster. I hung the bag on the knob that is holding up the mirror on my vanity.

Image

This is my old Victoria’s Secret perfume, it isn’t easy to see, but it is holding my bobby pins! I found it a great way to keep them organized!

Image

This is a little origami box that my friend made me, it is just holding ear plugs, necklaces, and little stickers.

Here is a link to one that looks simple enough.

Image

These are tins that held candies, the Hello Kitty one is holding a towel that cleans glasses, and Keroppi is holding mechanical pencil erasers.

Image

On the left an old vase is holding my mountains of nail polish, on the right my nail polish is being held by a plastic popcorn box. The box is only $1.00 but I do not know where to buy it.

Image

I’m pretty sure that you can’t tell what this is! The other knob on the side of my vanity is holding my head bands and ribbons.

Image

My Glam Bags are holding my makeup that I use often.

Image

This is a very convenient way to hold your “lady items”. It is so embarrassing to be in school and have a tampon fall out of your back pack, so I just carry this little bag with me whenever I need it. I used my favorite one to make my “time of the month” a little happier, ha!

Image

This old shoe box is holding my flat irons and curler.

Image

Oh well, my vanity is still cluttered, but at least its organized clutter! I hope this helps you find fun and creative ways to organize!

Recycle!

Natural Makeup

This is my first tutorial on doing makeup that looks very natural. I was very, very nervous so I sound a little like a robot, I will work harder on my future tutorials! Please leave comments below so I can know what you guys think!

Revlon Lipstick Review

Revlon Lipstick Review

I am so in love with this coral lipstick! It’s from Revlon and the name is Coralberry. This is such a pretty, bright color; it is the perfect consistency, not too thick or sheer. I totally recommend this!

Mascara Wands

Today I will show you the difference between mascara brushes. The shape really does make a huge difference, so does the length of the bristles and what they are made of. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a wide range to experiment with so I will just show you the difference in straight, curved, and this new one that came out (I don’t know the name of it); of course there are many different kinds of brushes that I’m not covering today. I will be using the same mascara so there will be a controlled factor.

Image

This is my favorite brush; it doesn’t hold a lot of the product because of the length of the bristles so you won’t get very thick lashes, but the ball at the tip lets you get to hard-to-reach places.

Image

This is the most common, and my least favorite brush. Notice that the lashes are not evenly distributed, and I could not get to the hard-to-reach lashes. The brush does hold more product that the last one because the bristles are longer.

Image

I really like the curved brush, it is made to fit the curvature of your eye. This brush fans out the lashes and makes them nice and thick; I do think that I might have used one to many coats though! This brush also holds more product, and can’t get to lashes at the inner corner of the eye.

Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s a great brush! ♥

Tiny makeup bag

The other night I slept over at my friend’s house. I didn’t want to bring my huge makeup collection with me because it’s too big to carry everywhere and I wouldn’t have much time to put it on while I was there. So I packed a few essentials with me, here they are.

Image

Elf finishing powder, Lise Waiter concealer wheel, and Cover Girl bronzer.

Lately it seems like I’ve been obsessed with bronzer, but it’s only because it is so perfect for summer! I’m very fair so I don’t often have that sun kissed glow, it’s nice knowing that I can just fake it!

Image

All Elf products, 3-in-1 Mascara, Under Eye Concealer, and Waterproof Eyeliner.

I absolutely adore these products! The Under Eye Concealer is amazing, It really makes me look so awake. The 3-in-1 Mascara is great for a natural look, it doesn’t really thicken the lashes much, but it makes them darker and longer. Truthfully, the eyeliner is just okay, it isn’t bad just not the best I’ve ever had.

Image

Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain, and Nivea Lip Moisturizer

I love lip stain, it’s great when you don’t want to worry about smudges, and reapplication. This color is perfect for summer, but if you have cool undertones try for a pinker shade.

Minimalist!

Ombre eyeliner

I’m sure you’ve all heard about and love the ombre trend, I know I do! This looks is simple, fast, and cute. Enjoy!

Image

Sweep white eyeshadow on lids up to the eyebrows.

Image

Dust on a light pinkie purple shadow, make sure it is not bright because this isn’t what we want to stand out.

Image

Apply a pink eyeliner from the inner corner of the lid to the middle.

Image

apply a purple liner from where the pink ends and sweep into a wing, then apply to waterline.

Image

Apply mascara, be sure not to apply it where the pink eyeliner is because you don’t want to cover it.

Now we’re done!

Chameleon!
